The Adult Protective Services (APS) program conducts investigations and works with adults aged 60+ and adults aged 18-59 with disabilities in resolving abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. All APS agencies are contracted by the Illinois Department on Aging to perform this service.
Abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation can take many forms, and in most cases, victims are subjected to more than one type of mistreatment. Types of abuse include abandonment, confinement, emotional, physical, sexual, financial exploitation, passive neglect, and willful deprivation.
If You See Something, Do Something!
If you suspect abuse of an older person or someone with a disability, don’t wait. Report suspected abuse, exploitation, or neglect by calling the statewide, 24-hour Adult Protective Services Hotline at 1-866-800-1409 or your local provider agency. Have this information ready:
- Victim’s name
- Address
- Alleged abuser(s)
- Information on allegations
- Victim’s age (or estimate)
- Victim’s disability (if under 60)
Reports are confidential and can be kept anonymous.
