February’s Heart Health Month is a powerful reminder that the heart is more than an organ, it’s the engine that keeps us connected to the people, places, and experiences we love. At AgeGuide, we know that supporting older adults means supporting wellness, and heart health is at the center of that mission.
Heart disease affects millions of people every year, but the good news is that small, sustainable lifestyle choices can make a meaningful difference at any age. Heart Health Month is the perfect time to reflect and take simple steps toward a stronger, healthier future.
Fitness Programs Through AgeGuide’s Funded Partners
Physical activity is one of the most powerful tools for heart health, and the good news is, it doesn’t require intense workouts. Gentle, enjoyable movement can boost circulation, strengthen the heart, and improve mood.
AgeGuide is proud to support a variety of evidence‑based fitness and wellness programs through our funded partners. These classes offer accessible and social opportunities for older adults to stay active.
See your local provider for more information on the following types of classes offered:
- Illinois Pathways to Health: Illinois Pathways to Health provides a directory of health self‑management workshops available throughout the Chicagoland area, including AgeGuide’s 8‑county region. Both in‑person and online classes are available.
- A Matter of Balance: This program helps older adults reduce fall risks and ease the fear of falling. Participants learn fall‑prevention strategies, build confidence, and increase physical activity, all while reducing the isolation that fear of falling can create.
- Bingocize: A fun and engaging way to learn, socialize, and exercise while playing bingo. Bingocize blends fall‑prevention or nutrition education with gentle exercises that strengthen the muscles needed for balance.
- Fit & Strong: Designed for older adults experiencing stiffness or pain, this multi‑component program helps participants become more active and confident in their daily lives. It combines physical activity with health education.
- Tai Chi for Arthritis: This gentle, flowing movement practice focuses on improving balance, strength, flexibility, immunity, and relaxation. Tai Chi is widely recommended by health‑related organizations for managing chronic pain and maintaining mobility.
Please note: Not all classes are available in every county. Contact your local provider for details.
