The Holiday Season is right around the corner! This year, the vaccine makes it possible for families and friends to safely gather in celebration. Authorized booster doses for all three COVID-19 vaccines are now available near you. The Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) announced that individuals can get both the flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. There is no need to wait in-between each vaccine. It is strongly encouraged to visit your primary care doctor or your local pharmacy to get both vaccines in one visit.
Here is everything you need to know:
- A single Moderna booster shot can be taken at least 6 months after the initial 2-doses for all adults over the age of 18.
- A single Pfizer booster shot can be taken 6 months after the primary 2-dose series for all adults 18 and older.
- A single Johnson & Johnson booster dose may be administered 2 months after the first Johnson & Johnson shot to those who are 18 and older.
- Individuals can “mix and match” booster shots. Meaning, an individual can receive any of the three available booster shots (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson) regardless of which vaccination they received first. The concept of “mix and match” is recommended for the booster shot only. The primary Pfizer and Moderna doses must still be followed by the appropriate 2nd dose that is in accordance with whichever dose was received initially.
- The Pfizer booster shot is the same exact formula as the 2nd shot in the Pfizer series.
- The Moderna booster shot is only half the dosage of its primary 2-dose series.
- Vaccination is the most effective method available in preventing severe COVID-19. Getting your booster shot in time for the holidays ensures that you and your loved ones are well protected. Getting fully vaccinated (if you are eligible) is our best change at returning to normalcy in order to safely gather and celebrate during the holiday season.
