Aging advocates, community leaders, healthcare professionals, and others gathered on August 21st for the 3rd annual Aging Summit hosted by AgeGuide. This year’s Aging Summit focused on advancing economic resilience throughout lifespans. At AgeGuide, we decided to dive into this topic after the 2023 World Economic Forum’s report highlighted three longevity literacy principles and actions to fund our longer lives as the global population ages. Embracing these principles can significantly improve our financial and social outcomes. The tenets are simple: prioritize a healthy lifestyle, diversify your savings, and engage in lifelong learning and community outreach. The report’s three principles of longevity literacy, create a framework to help us navigate toward a financially resilient and sustainable longer life. However, this requires a significant shift in how we live, work, and save.

The one-day summit kicked off with a keynote address by Bob Blancato, Executive Director of the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs.  Bob shared from his wealth of knowledge on national-level policy and encourages all of us to advocate for older adults.

Other presentations throughout the day included conversations on reimagining social security, avoiding scams, navigating medical debt, the financial toll on caregivers, and strategies for economic security for women. The day was filled with meaningful conversations around age, longevity, and inclusive communities and how we can make longevity equitable for all.

AgeGuide would like to thank our esteemed panelists, presenters and attendees who participated in the annual Aging Summit.  Our goal was to inspire people to take action to improve our communities and the lives of older adults now and into the future. Thank you to our sponsors, AARP Illinois, Meridian of Illinois, Aetna Medicare Solutions, Mom’s Meals, TCARE Inc. and Molina Healthcare for helping make this event possible.
