‘Twas the night before shutdown and all through the House (and Senate)
every civil servant remained stirring as a crisis was doused.

Although the rhyme is bad, the news is good… sort of. On Dec 2, with a day to spare, Congress passed another Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government running through February 18, 2022. We would have preferred a shorter CR so that legislators would be pressed to pass a budget with much-needed increases to our programs. Instead, all government programs, including Older Americans Act-funded services, will remain at FY 2021 levels for a couple more months. However, avoiding the shutdown is certainly a relief and it does give us the more time to continue our advocacy for aging programs. Please help us make the best of this gift of time by sending a letter to your legislators today to tell them how important home and community-based services are.

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!

At the state level, the Illinois House and Senate released their new legislative calendars which include abbreviated sessions. Legislators will have to fly like the down of a thistle to get anything beyond the budget passed with this condensed schedule.
