April is recognized as National Social Security Month, serving as a timely reminder of the program’s significance in providing financial security to retirees, individuals with disabilities, and families of deceased workers.

With rising living costs and increasing healthcare expenses, Social Security benefits are more critical than ever for many Americans. Recent surveys reveal that approximately 76% of Americans doubt that the average monthly Social Security payment of $1,978 will be sufficient to support them through retirement.

How AgeGuide is Defending Social Security

In March 2025, Governor JB Pritzker, alongside Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton and U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood, convened at The Ovation Center in Romeoville, Illinois, to address pressing concerns about potential federal changes to Social Security and Medicaid. This event, part of the “Standing Up For Illinois” tour, underscored the state’s commitment to safeguarding benefits vital to over two million Illinois residents.

Marla Fronczak, CEO of AgeGuide, participated on the panel and emphasized the importance of community engagement in advocating for older adults’ rights and benefits. Her involvement highlights AgeGuide’s dedication to ensuring that the voices of older adults are heard in policy discussions that directly impact their well-being.

As we observe National Social Security Month, let us recognize the importance of collective advocacy in ensuring that Social Security remains a robust and reliable source of support for current and future generations.
