Lombard, IL – AgeGuide, the Area Agency on Aging for Northeastern Illinois, is announcing its new Senior Dine Restaurant Program, which is a pilot community dining program available to older adults in Grundy County in partnership with Community Nutrition Network and Senior Services Association (CNN) and the Morris Chop Shop.

On Thursday, February 2, all are welcome to join us at 701 Liberty Street in Morris, for a grand opening with ribbon cutting, cake cutting, and commemorative photos to celebrate the new Morris Chop Shop “Dine Around Town” partnership with Community Nutrition Network to provide delicious, nutritious meals to community members over age 60. We will welcome special guests Paula Basta (Director of the Illinois Department on Aging), Marla Fronczak (CEO of AgeGuide, the state Area Agency on Aging), and Lauren Doherty (CEO of Community Nutrition Network).

To attend the open house, please RSVP to Elizabeth Bowman, Outreach Coordinator, at 331-701-6505 or [email protected]. The Morris Chop Shop owners Jackie Clisham and Tim Berner are offering seven Chop Shop favorite meals, adapted to meet nutritional requirements for older adults. Staff from Community Nutrition Network register clients for monthly meals on pre-loaded payment cards each month. Meals can be used any time during the month or any time up to Sept. 30, 2023.

“This new innovative dining program will be a wonderful addition to our nutrition program in Grundy County,” said Marla Fronczak, Chief Executive Officer of AgeGuide Northeastern Illinois. “We are excited to partner with CNNSSA and The Morris Chop Shop to offer this new opportunity for older adults to enjoy in their community.”

The Dine Around Town dinner menu includes fan favorites such as the “Chop Shop Mac N Cheese,” and “Fettuccine & Meatballs,” including house-made meatballs. “Steakhouse Stroganoff” and “Chimichurri Steak” will also be on the menu, along with lighter options such as soups and salads.

The menu is offered on Wednesdays (4-8 p.m.), Thursdays (4-9 p.m.), and Sundays (3-8 p.m.), during the Morris Chop Shop’s regular hours. Customers are welcome to dine in or take out. All meals meet U.S. federal standards for nutrition for older adults, and have been reviewed and approved by a licensed dietitian.

Community Nutrition Network and Senior Services Association (CNNSSA) provides home-delivered meals five days a week, weekend meals, shelf-stable meals, and meals at local restaurants through special partnerships. Community Nutrition Network is a donation-based nonprofit serving those age 60 or above and their spouses and caregivers. No one is ever turned away for unwillingness or inability to pay. CNNSSA is funded in part by the Meals on Wheels Foundation of Northern Illinois and AgeGuide, Northeastern Illinois.
