August is known as National Immunization Awareness Month, which reminds us of the importance of receiving all widely recommended vaccines, not just the COVID-19 vaccine. After all, flu season is right around the corner!
COVID-19
We know that the COVID-19 global pandemic has impacted all aspects of life, including our ability to attend important appointments and sometimes, to receive routine, recommended vaccines. If you are eligible for any stage of the COVID-19 vaccine – whether it be the initial two doses, third dose, or booster shots – we strongly encourage you to get vaccinated to stay up-to-date with these vaccines.
Flu
This is the optimal time of year to prepare for the influx of seasonal flu viruses and exposure that often happens during the fall and winter months. In other words, now is the perfect time to get your flu vaccine! Visit your doctor or your local pharmacy to inquire about receiving the flu vaccine. According to CDC recommendations, almost everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine by the end of October each year.
Vaccines for Other Diseases
According to many health providers, public health professionals, and governmental health agencies, there is no preventive health measure that is more important than vaccination. The World Health Organization (WHO) endorses vaccines as a safe and effective method to prevent and control many different infectious diseases. This annual observance serves as a crucial opportunity to highlight the importance of vaccination, especially within older adults, caregivers, and their families.
