Each July, Disability Pride Month recognizes the history, achievements, and contributions of people with disabilities while celebrating the diversity and strength of the disability community. The month also commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, a landmark civil rights law that expanded protections and opportunities for millions of Americans.

Whether living with a lifelong disability or experiencing changes in mobility, vision, hearing, or cognition, every individual deserves the opportunity to age with respect.

Aging and Disability Go Hand in Hand

As our communities grow older, creating environments that are accessible and inclusive becomes increasingly important. Disability Pride Month reminds us that accessibility benefits everyone, from sidewalks and transportation to communication, technology, and community programs.

At AgeGuide, we are committed to supporting older adults of all abilities by promoting person-centered services that empower individuals to remain engaged and connected within their communities. We recognize that fostering inclusion means listening to lived experiences, reducing barriers to services, and continually improving how we serve the diverse needs of older adults across our eight-county region.

Moving Forward Together

Disability Pride Month is an opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made while continuing to advance communities where everyone can thrive. By embracing accessibility, challenging stereotypes, and valuing the unique experiences of people with disabilities, we help build stronger, more inclusive communities for all.
