May is Military Appreciation Month, a time to honor and recognize the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. At AgeGuide, we understand that honoring veterans means more than just words—it means action. That’s why we are proud to offer programs that support older veterans in leading healthy, independent, and dignified lives.
One such resource is Veterans Directed Care (VDC), a unique program that empowers veterans to choose the services and supports they need to age in place. During this month of gratitude, AgeGuide invites our communities to learn how we can all play a role in giving back to those who have given so much.
Empowering Independence Through Veterans Directed Care
For many veterans, especially those facing the challenges of aging or disability, remaining in their own homes is a top priority. AgeGuide’s Veterans Directed Care program is designed with that goal in mind. In partnership with the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and Lovell Federal Health Care Center, this program allows eligible veterans in DuPage, Lake, McHenry, and Suburban Cook counties to receive personalized support while maintaining control over their care.
Through VDC, veterans receive a flexible budget and work closely with trained counselors to develop a care plan tailored to their unique needs. They can hire their own caregivers—including family members or friends—and purchase services that help with daily tasks, personal care, home modifications, and more.
At AgeGuide, we believe that showing appreciation means ensuring our veterans have access to resources that honor their independence and service. Our Veterans Directed Care program is one of many ways we deliver on that commitment.
This Military Appreciation Month, let’s move beyond celebration—let’s uplift, support, and care for the veterans who have safeguarded our freedoms.
