November is National Family Caregiver Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the 63 million Americans who provide unpaid care to loved ones facing illness, disability, or the challenges of aging. Some caregivers are also grandparents raising their grandchildren. These caregivers contribute an estimated $600 billion in unpaid labor annually and they save billions more in tax dollars by keeping their loved ones out of the more costly long-term care system. Their work ensures that older adults can remain in their homes and communities, preserving dignity and independence.

Why Caregivers Matter

Family caregivers assist with everything from managing medications and coordinating health care to providing emotional support and hands-on help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and meal preparation. Nearly one in four caregivers spends 40 or more hours per week providing care, often while juggling jobs and raising children.

Caregiving supports individual well-being and reduces strain on health systems and public resources.

The 2025 Theme: Plug-In to Care

This year’s theme, “Plug-In to Care,” emphasizes the importance of connection. It encourages caregivers to access tools, networks, and educational resources that make their journey less overwhelming. From respite services to technology solutions, plugging in means finding support that sustains both caregivers and those they care for.
