As COVID numberscontinue to rise this winter, many of us are feeling burned out and frustrated by the ongoing polarized discord around the topic of vaccines and recommended safety protocols. If you’re feeling this way, it may be time for some new conversation strategies. COVID-19 has not been an easy pill to swallow, and it is often hard to talk to others who have different opinions. A unique campaign from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), The University of Minnesota and IDEO.org was developed to help. #NoJudgment is a toolkit that offers resources and tools to de-escalate conversations around the COVID-19 vaccine and offer trustworthy information on common vaccine concerns and strategies to engage people.
The tools are designed to spark compassionate dialogue about the vaccine. The hope of the campaign is to shift the conversation from one that feels anxiety-inducing and polarizing, to one that is supportive and judgement-free.
The campaign specifically aims to address the unique needs and concerns of communities of refugee, immigrant, and migrant populations in the US to open dialogue and reduce polarization. The campaign works alongside a Youth Design Collective made up of young people who identify as refugees, immigrants, and/or migrants, to create and test outreach materials.
