National Volunteer Month is more than just a designated period on the calendar; it’s a celebration of the spirit of giving back and making a difference in our communities. While volunteering is valuable throughout the year, this month serves as a special opportunity to highlight the importance and impact of volunteerism.

Nonprofits like AgeGuide would not be able to impact communities without our network of volunteers. Here are several ways you can volunteer with AgeGuide:

  • Apply to be a part of our Board of Directors and Advisory Council: Our volunteer Board and Advisory Council positions us as thought leaders and innovative change-makers in support of the aging population in Northeastern Illinois.
    • We are looking for Board members who live in Grundy, Kane, McHenry, and Kendall Counties and Advisory Council members who work or live in Grundy Kane and McHenry counties. The majority of our members are over the age of 60.
  • Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Volunteer:  The Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program’s (SHIP) mission is to provide local, in-depth, and objective insurance counseling and assistance to Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers. Training to become a SHIP Counselor is available throughout the summer months and in areas across Illinois.
  • Senior Medicare Patrol Volunteer: A Senior Medicare Patrol Volunteer empowers and assists Medicare beneficiaries and their families to prevent, detect, and report healthcare fraud, error, and abuse. Community educator volunteers serve this purpose by educating beneficiaries in a variety of ways, including group presentations, exhibits at community events, and even one-on-one counseling.

If you’re passionate about improving the lives of older adults, consider joining us.
