Social Wellness Month is an initiative that promotes the importance of social well-being and the positive impact it has on our overall health and happiness. It aims to raise awareness about the significance of maintaining healthy relationships, fostering connections, and engaging in social activities.

As we age, social wellness is particularly crucial. Changes to health and circumstances can sometimes lead to social isolation or feelings of loneliness, which has an adverse effect on our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Healthy relationships and positive connections with others provide social support, protecting our mental health. Each of these aspects of our wellness are interconnected.

Remember, social wellness is not just about physical connections, but also about meaningful relationships and engagement. By intentionally fostering social well-being throughout our communities, we can enhance our quality of life, promote positive mental health, and create a more inclusive and vibrant community for everyone.

There are many ways we can develop and nurture our social health. Programs are available through AgeGuide and our funded partners to promote engagement and increase social connection for older adults and caregivers. You can find a list and links below. In addition, keep an eye out for the many opportunities in your community to stay active and engaged—whether it’s through volunteering, arts programs, lifelong learning, your local library, or online classes.
